BIO
Connie Babian Grab is an educator, book artist and graphic designer, currently teaching Typography and Publication Design at Bristol Community College in Massachusetts.

For over thirty years, Connie’s career centered around graphic design, with her work running the gamut from art directing and producing multi-image slide presentations for Fortune 500 companies such as Georgia-Pacific, Nike, Tektronix, Eastman Kodak and Xerox to designing print and digital media for small businesses and non-profits in Oregon, upstate New York and southeastern New England. In the 2000s she returned to school in order to teach graphic design.

Recently, in addition to teaching, Connie has turned her attention toward monotype printmaking and artist books, printing with leaves and other found objects to create her visual imagery.

In her artist books Connie blends low-tech printmaking processes, paste paper, collage and sewing with inkjet- or laser-printed typography and other digital imagery. She seeks to design a book’s structure — the binding, the texture, the way it unfolds in our hands as we move through it — to speak to readers on a non-verbal level, feeling the meaning of the written words as much as reading them.

In addition to BCC, Connie has taught at Salve Regina University, Assumption College, Mount Ida College, UMass Dartmouth, Rhode Island School of Design's Continuing Education program and Rhode Island College.

She holds an MFA in Visual Design: Typography from UMass Dartmouth and a BFA in Advertising Design from Rochester Institute of Technology.
